The Carinus family have been involved in the South African wine industry for five generations, growing fruit in Stellenbosch and the Swartland, which they supply to some of the country’s foremost award-winning winemakers.
Over the years the family have adapted their approach to focus more on quality rather than quantity as a manifestation of their belief that that wine is made in the vineyard.
In 2011 cousins Danie and Hugo Carinus decided it was time to use the grapes they grow to make their own wine too, which was the start of Carinus Family Wines. The result is two Chenin Blancs from their Swartland grapes; the Rooidraai Chenin Blanc and the Carinus Chenin Blanc. A Syrah was later added to their collection, made from the grapes grown on their Polkadraai property in Stellenbosch.
