Elim, meaning “place of God” is the southernmost wine ward in Africa, renowned for its extreme maritime terroir. Here, where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet at the southernmost tip of Africa, one finds the ‘Cape of Storms’, better known as Cape Agulhas, renowned for many a shipwreck.
The unique terroir of the Elim ward, with its prevailing winds from two oceans, provides a very cool ripening season, ideal for Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon, and a peppery Shiraz. A rocky outcrop adds a smooth minerality to its white wines and pure fruit flavours in its reds.
