Cape Rock Grenache

This wine is light in colour and in body with a nose dominated by pomegranate and red summer berries such as wild strawberry and raspberries. The tannins are extremely soft and there are virtually no discernable oak flavours. The wine was made to be enjoyed at release, but should improve with age for up to 3 years after.

We really enjoy Grenache, especially when picked early and fermented for a short period on its skins. It makes for an extremely light wine with a luminous red colour. The moderately low alcohol level and ageing mostly in tank results in a refreshing drink that can be drunk on its own (or on your own!) or with aromatic foods, pizza, charcuterie and firm cheeses.

9 year old single trellised, irrigated vineyard, Spruitdrift area, Olifants River, West Coast, South Africa.


The grapes were hand picked in the morning, de-stemmed into open neutral fermentation vessels with cooling plates and fermented naturally. Pump overs and punch downs were performed twice daily to daily during the end of the fermentation. 80% of the free run and pressed wine was racked to tank and 20% to old 225L and 300L French oak barrels in which it matured for 11 months. A small percentage of Syrah was added to improve mouth feel, add a bit of tannin and make the wine slightly darker in colour. The wine was racked from tank and barrel before blending and bottling, unfined and not cold stabilised with a very light filtration at bottling


Well drained loam and red sand mix on a broken hard-pan layer.
